As a Christian I believe that we are all precious in
God's mind and that to hurt any one is wrong whether they believe as we
do or not. We don't believe in killing anyone even if they try to kill
us first. Saying that, my question really is one of economics for
the mideast
region of the world where most of the oil dependent countries get their
fuel. We in American rely on that oil supply as do others. I do not
understand with all the multi millionaires over there, why they don't use
their wealth to help their own countries. Osama bin Laden is a good
example. Why
does he not use his money for the betterment of his fellow man as
opposed to the destruction of those who do not believe as he does? How much
better off would those countries be if those who have all the wealth
would use it for good!
With regard to the sanctity of human life, Islam and Christianity are not too far apart. In the Qur'an we are told that whoever kills one person unjustly, it is as if he killed all of humanity, and whoever saves one person, it is as if he saved all of humanity. However, the problem of the Third World does not stem simply from the lack of individual charity (there are as many rich people in the Muslim world involved in charitable acts as there are in America, just as there are as many rich people in America not discharging their social responsibility as there are in the Muslim world), nor can it be resolved by individual generosity. The problem is that the Third World is deeply indebted to the West through interest based financing and is tightly controlled by the West through unpopular military regimes. Since World War II American foreign policy is responsible for over 8 million civilian deaths around the world through war and various covert operations. As Martin Luther King Jr. said during the Vietnam War: My government is the world's leading purveyor of violence.
